Call to Action: Oregon Judge Villainized for Faith

Respected Circuit Judge, Vance Day is the subject of a “judicial fitness” investigation that is bordering on the bizarre. It stems from the decision to recuse himself from officiating future marriages, man-woman or same-sex. He felt it was an impartial solution to honor his faith beliefs following Oregon’s legalization of same-sex marriage. As a result, critics have launched an assault on Judge Day with outlandish assertions that include honoring Adolf Hitler in a US Veteran’s Memorial.

At Oregon Family Council we believe in the importance of continuing to have a Christian voice in our political and legal system. The investigation into Vance Day is completely uncalled for, and only shows the extreme prejudice against people of faith and their values.. We urge you to contact the Commission on Judicial Fitness and Disability and voice support for Vance Day, and call for religious accommodations for people of faith serving in public office.

Here is a sample message you may use:

Dear members of the commission,

I am writing to express my support for Judge Vance Day. After reading the content of your investigation of him it has become clear to me that this is a politically motivated attack on his Christian beliefs. These baseless allegations call into question the impartiality of the Judiciary in Oregon and suggest to me that your commission is more interested in partisan politics than the rule of law. Judge Vance Day never discriminated against anyone. There are many judges across the state of Oregon who do not perform marriages for a variety of reasons and you have no jurisdiction to investigate whether their religious beliefs motivated those decisions. Your disregard for the law and the constitution and your baseless investigation into the Christian faith of a good man only displays your own bigotry against Christians. I request that you drop this politically motivated investigation immediately.
